Math soc diary - entry 1

I hope everyone had a good time knowing a bit more about Permutations as well as Commutations last week!!!! And I hope you all had a good time solving SIMC challenges this week too!!!!!! 

In future there are still more and more exciting sessions await you all ahead, so take your time and enjoy them all, like today!!! :D 

I hope you had GREAT TEAM TIME!!! :D

AND A REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE DOING SOMETHING UNCONVENTIONAL TOO! 

On another important note, we are publicizing for our annual Intra College Maths Competition on 8th February!!!!!! :D and while you all are participating, I hope you can as well spend the time you have to encourage your friends and classmates to take part too!!!! Kindly ask them to come to our super-cool canteen BOOTH with super cooool games HEHEEEEEEE!!!!

A stats professor plans to travel to a conference by plane. When he passes the security check, they discover a bomb in his carry-on-baggage. Of course, he is hauled off immediately for interrogation.
"I don't understand it!" the interrogating officer exclaims. "You're an accomplished professional, a caring family man, a pillar of your parish - and now you want to destroy that all by blowing up an airplane!"
"Sorry", the professor interrupts him. "I had never intended to blow up the plane."
"So, for what reason else did you try to bring a bomb on board?!"
"Let me explain. Statistics shows that the probability of a bomb being on an airplane is 1/1000. That's quite high if you think about it - so high that I wouldn't have any peace of mind on a flight."
"And what does this have to do with you bringing a bomb on board of a plane?"
"You see, since the probability of one bomb being on my plane is 1/1000, the chance that there are two bombs is 1/1000000. If I already bring one, the chance of another bomb being around is actually 1/1000000, and I am much safer..."

MATH SOC PEOPLE, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? (:

Halllo everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

I wonder how the new school year has been for you all? I wish everyone all the best for your new school year! It's gonna be busier, more hectic, especially for the SHs but I believe you all will stay strong through out 2011 no matter what. 

This year you will probably be involved in a lot of activities besides Maths Society, such as nationals, SYF, SISC, so on and so forth. At some point of time you may feel tired both physically and mentally. But I sincerely hope that Maths Soc would still have a place in your mind and your heart. Please don't neglect Maths Soc even if you have to be involved in a lot of other things. As you've known, we indeed have a lot of exciting events and Maths Soc sessions for you ahead! (: 

So don't forget our FIRST SESSION OF THE YEAR:

Time: 4.45 pm, this Friday, 14th Jan 2011 (our sessions will be on every Friday, same time, same venue, please be punctual so we can start on time and end on time, please provide valid reason for your absence if you are sick or have something on)

Venue: SR31, near the staircase to AVA room!
