Helloooooooooooooooo people. As promised, here are some logic questions, as a follow-up from the session yesterday (19 feb). Have fun thinking logically! xD

Determine the validity of this!

If the maid is innocent, then either the butler is guilty or the butler is a liar. Now there is no doubt that the butler is a liar and the maid is innocent. Therefore, we can be sure that the butler is guilty.

Valid or invalid?

*hint: always convert compound sentences into statements with sentence operators

Use truth tables with these notations!

Let m be the maid is guilty

Let b be the butler is guilty

Let l be the butler is a liar

Try this problem!

Alfred, Kurt and Rudolf are suspected of robbery. They testify under oath as follows:

Alfred : Kurt is guilty and Rudolf is innocent.

Kurt : If Alfred is guilty, then so is Rudolf.

Rudolf : I am innocent but at least one of the others is guilty.

a) Can everyone’s testimony be true?

b) Assuming that everyone is innocent, who committed perjury (lied)?

c) Assuming that everyone’s testimony is true, who is guilty and who is innocent?

d) Assuming that the innocent told the truth and the guilty told lies, who is innocent and who is guilty?

e) The testimony of one of the suspects follows from that of another. Which from which?
